Dr. Kundan Thind
Medical Physicist at Henry Ford Health
Dr. Thind joined Henry Ford Cancer Institute as Vice Chair of Academics in Department of Radiation Oncology in 2021. Previously, he served as Deputy Director of Division of Medical Physics at Tom Baker Cancer Institute, affiliated with the University of Calgary. Dr. Thind holds a PhD from Robarts Research Institute. He is a fellow of the Canadian College of Physicists in Medicine and focuses his research on AI and Imaging in Radiation Oncology. Dr. Thind is dedicated to enhancing efficiency and quality in radiation oncology through automation.

Dr. Matthew C Schmidt
Assistant Professor/Chief of Quality Assurance Services at Washington University
Dr. Schmidt has a bachelor's degree in physics from Valdosta State University, a master's degree in Medical Physics from Duke University, and a PhD from the University of Massachusetts at Lowell. His clinical interests include improving radiation oncology workflow and image analysis. He developed and taught courses on the Eclipse Scripting API while at Varian. Currently, he is an assistant professor and Chief of Quality Assurance at Washington University in St. Louis School of Medicine.

Dr. Sarah Quirk
Director of Process Improvement at Dana Farber Cancer Institute/ Harvard Medical School
Dr. Quirk, a Faculty Physicist at Brigham & Women’s Hospital, Dana Farber Cancer Institute, and Assistant Professor at Harvard Medical School, serves as the Director of Process Improvement in Radiation Oncology. She has contributed to the development and enhancement of radiotherapy options for early-stage breast cancer, particularly accelerated partial breast irradiation. Furthermore, she leads initiatives for automated clinical radiotherapy workflows and the comprehensive integration of informatics and decision-support applications.

Welcome & Introductions

Two of our cofounders, Kurt Sysock (CEO) and Alan Nelson (CSO), will kick off the Summit by sharing the backstory of how Radformation came to be and provide an introduction to the workshop.
Hear From Our Speakers
2:15 - 3 PM
Kundan Thind will discuss the future and potential challenges of automation, and deeper level integration into EPIC.
Sarah Quirk will cover clinical implementation and change management, using an example of automated breast planning.
Matthew Schmidt will share insights on automation in the clinic and practical smaller applications.
Panel Discussion
3:15 - 4 PM
This engaging discussion will dive into scripting applications and programming in our field. Hear how Drs. Thind, Schmidt, Quirk and Wayne Keranen, got started in programming and their thoughts on current and future applications in radiation therapy.
